We respectfully disagree with your assessment. As a company that oversees designs, installs, pumps, repairs, and maintains septic systems, our objective is not to sell unnecessary repairs today. Our objective is to earn the opportunity to become your long-term septic contractor. That means recommending the maintenance and repairs that provide the greatest return on your investment, helping your existing system achieve the longest service life possible, and demonstrating the level of service that makes you want to call us again years from now. The irony is that we also install new septic systems. If our goal were simply to maximize today's invoice, the easiest path would be to ignore the smaller issues, allow an aging system to continue deteriorating, and replace it when it eventually fails. Instead, we routinely recommend maintenance and repairs intended to delay that day for as long as possible. We're not trying to maximize the value of today's job. We're trying to maximize the life of your septic system. Eventually, every septic system reaches the end of its service life. When that day comes, we hope we've earned the opportunity to oversee the design and install its replacement because we helped you get every practical year out of the system you already owned. If helping a customer avoid a replacement for decades eventually earns us that opportunity, then yes, that's the kind of "upsell" we are trying to achieve. That philosophy is fundamentally different from recommending work that isn't needed. It is why our recommendations focus first on preserving the system you already have. In your case, our recommendations were based on documented observations made during the inspection, including a displaced effluent filter, evidence of elevated hydraulic levels within the system, improperly sealed risers with water and root intrusion, and county records documenting the drainfield location, where paved walkways were observed during our site visit. We documented our findings, explained the implications, answered your questions, and left every recommendation as a choice for you to make. We stand behind both our findings and our process.
